KCPC Members take to the River in January
In January 2009 thanks to Pat Hendrick, some of the young members took to the rivers...
On the Sun 11th Jan; first up was a sprint race on the Slaney at Aghade, Co.Carlow. A sprint event over ~ .7km WW course, which took ~2min 5secs . It was over four runs and Chris Morash came second in the Junior GP class. It was an enjoyable day in pleasant weather conditions.
On Sun 18th Jan; there was a training day (9am to 4pm) on the lower section of the Avonmore in Wicklow; Due to poor weather conditions the Club did not travel to the event.
On Sun 25th Jan; “Avonmore Classic” a 5km race on the lower section of the Avonmore. George Kosinski, Chris Morash and Pat headed off early got there ~ 11am and did a practice run before the race at 1pm. It was a long but continuous white water grade 2-3 run with some challenging hazards for lads to learn from.
The race was tiring, especially in the plastic GP boats, the water level was low and it’s quite a rocky stretch of river at low level. A good feed in the Meeting of the Waters and back home. Chris with prizes in hand, again!
The next event is a Sprint race at the Sluice in Lucan on Sun Feb 8th, but most of the members are doing / starting the Mocks at that stage, so they will not be available to compete.
Well done to all
