Tails win Division 1, Fins take 2nd place in Division 1 and Kilcock win Division 3. A great weekend ......

Saturday

Well what a weekend we had in Galway City. Rob and his crew said that the sun would shine on us and he was right. It was a glorious weekend with sunshine, good company, good organisation (except that the competition ran about 1 hour late against the timetable) but it was compensated with the weather , live music and a barbecue on the Saturday evening .

Kilcock Canoe Polo Club brought 3 teams to Galway , 2 in Division 1 and 1 in Division 3. Thanks to Peter Fitzgerald and Pat Hendrick , Team Leaders for the weekend.
Saturday was a busy day for the 3 teams with Tails taking to Pitch 1 at the start of the competition led by Mark McCormack . Swink was no match for Tails and the final score was 7 – 2.
Fins with their Captain Ciaran McCormack met Sandy cows in their first match and won easily 5 – 2 in their match. Tails were on a winning streak and beat Kamakazi 6 – 1 in their match mid morning.
In Division 3 , Pat Hendrick led his team to a victory against Mr Plough in their first match beating them 5 – 2 and following this they beat Cryptos 5 – 0 in their 2nd match.
Back on Pitch 2 , Fins beat Galway 11 – 0 mid morning.
The cracker of a match was Fins against Tails in the afternoon. What a match this was, 2 Kilcock Canoe Polo Club Teams meeting each other on the Claddagh waters.
It was a great match and any club would be proud of the players and their performance. What a close match it was, Norman Phelan scored the first goal of the match with the final score 4 – 2 to the Tails.
Back on Pitch 1 , Kilcock took on Wukkin Furries in Division 3 and won by 11 – 1.
In the afternoon Tails met their old rivals and held to a draw 2 -2 against Carnage. Fins followed with a great win against Kamakazi beating them 7 – 1.
It looked like Kilcock Canoe Polo Club were only warming up for the afternoon. Cloudy skies turned to sunshine, the music played in the background, the barbeques were in full swing.
As the afternoon turned to evening , Tails met Sandy cows and beat them 5 – 4.
The last match of the evening was Carnage against Fins and the final result was 2 – 2.

Sunday Match Results

Kilcock played the first match in Division 3 on Sunday morning meeting North Kildare. They ended with a draw 2 – 2. Their next match was a scratch match much to the disappointment of the KCPC team but a friendly was played between the teams anyhow 5 - 0.
Back in Division 1 , Tails beat Galway 8 – 1 and Fins followed with a 3 – 2 win over Swink.

With such an excellent performance over the weekend by the 3 teams , all went forward to the semi finals.
In Division 3 , Kilcock won their semi finals and went through to the finals against QUB.
In Division 1 , Tails met Swink and beat them 4 – 3 and Fins beat Carnage by 3 goals.
The finals of Division 3 was a great match, Morgan and Denmead were a great pair and worked really well together. Morris in goals did a fine job. The final score was 5 – 1 to Kilcock.
In Division 1 , Tails and Fins met and this was a cracker of a match. Paddy Mooney was Man of the Match here. At full time the score was 5 all. The match went to extra time and golden gold and Mark McCormack of Tails clinched a win in the 32nd second of extra time by scoring a goal.

This indeed was an excellent competition,the location was great, the goals were dodgy but the weather made up for everything else.)
