Rules of Canoe polo

If you are interested in playing canoe polo, you will want to familiarise yourself with the rules. What follows are a short version of the rules, which are designed to start you off. If you want a copy of the full set of rules and competition guidelines, see the website of the International Canoe Federation:

1.
Canoe polo is a game played between 2 teams of five players in polo kayaks. Up to three substitute players may be used by each team
2.
Each team attempts to score goals by throwing the ball into the opposing team’s net, which is suspended above the water.
3. Players may not carry the ball on their boats. Players move the ball up the pitch by throwing it ahead of them, or by passing it.
4. Players may not push another player, unless that player is in possession of the ball.
5. A player’s paddle may not make contact with another player’s hand.
6. Players must wear polo buoyancy aids and a helmet with a face guard.
